Greeting Families,

The past couple of weeks in room 314 we have been busy immersing ourselves in the study of the Civil War. Students have learned about causes, the different sides, and the Underground Railroad, just to name a few. Students have shown a lot of interest in studying the various topics outside of school and have brought in a lot of information to share with the class.

In math we have been reviewing multi digit addition and subtraction but our focus has been on multi digit multiplication. We have a lot of fun projects planned leading up to Winter Break, where students will be able to show off their multiplication skills they have worked hard towards improving!

In planning ahead, the following dates will be important to remember:

- Friday, December 7th @ 2:00 Winter Sing, progress reports are also sent home with your child today.
-Wednesday, December 12th @ 2:00 BOCS concert
-Friday, December 21st, Winter Festival in Ms. McGrorty's room. Treats are welcome.
-December 24th to January 1st Winter Break, classes resume Wednesday January 2nd

Testing week has finally ended! It has been a very busy week and students have worked hard towards achieving proficiency on all of the subjects they were tested on. I am proud of the work the students have done so far this year and we look forward to accomplishing many more goals as we move forward.

Report cards were sent home today with students. A parent/guardian should sign the envelope and return it to school, with their child, on Monday.

Reminders:

Student Council is continuing their food drive in support of the Salvation Army. Please send with your child any non-perishable food items that you are able to donate to this cause. The POD team that collects the most items will win a party.

Monday: Bear Wear
Wednesday: POD color day, wear green!
Friday: Favorite team color(s)

There is no school November 21st, 22nd and 23rd.

Today we had a PBIS/TRIBES assembly and the following students got a star power award:

Hayden Yearian and Jesse Freeland.

We continued to learn about government on the Congress for Kids website. In SEL, 5th grade worked on the individual planning conference booklet and the 4th graders did career booklets where they sorted jobs. Also, Hayden Yearian got a pat on the back award from Ms.Prekop for being a good listener the whole time in class. In reading we read an achieve article called "What's in a Name". Math was exciting today because we learned about how algebra is just like finding missing numbers and for Writer's Workshop we wrote our final drafts of our opinion papers.

Tomorrow is Bear Wear Day. Wear school colors or your spirit wear!

Today our class talked further about all the different components of Daily five. We practiced word work by sorting our Words Their Way words and putting them into sentences. We also edited our morning journals by using more descriptive words to describe our favorite foods. Editing is part of the Writer's Workshop process, which students will use a lot.

We downloaded two more apps on to our ipads today. A calculator and a math game called Glow Burst to help us work on ordering numbers from least to greatest. We also continued to work on place value.

Remember every Wednesday is POD color day. Our color is green. If you didn't remember to wear green today, remember for next Wednesday!
