It has been a busy week so far for room 314. We are settling into the new school year and getting our reading and math groups started. We are continuing to practice our Daily Five skills in Literacy and have continued our government inquiry through learning about the United States Constitution and comparing it to our own rules here at Jefferson. In math we have been learning about fractions and are becoming experts on adding fractions with like denominators and changing mixed numbers into improper fractions!

Today we downloaded more apps onto our ipads and worked on positive thinking and daily five skills. The following students received prizes for working exceptionally well during daily five and completing extra credit work:

Justin Jarumbo
Nathan Nobs
Haley Czerwinski
Armando Garcia
Jesse Freeland
Kayla Bray

Thank you to these students for setting an excellent example of how great learners look in room 314.

Tomorrow is wear your green and gold day to show your Packer spirit. You can also wear other colors to support your favorite team.

Today our class talked further about all the different components of Daily five. We practiced word work by sorting our Words Their Way words and putting them into sentences. We also edited our morning journals by using more descriptive words to describe our favorite foods. Editing is part of the Writer's Workshop process, which students will use a lot.

We downloaded two more apps on to our ipads today. A calculator and a math game called Glow Burst to help us work on ordering numbers from least to greatest. We also continued to work on place value.

Remember every Wednesday is POD color day. Our color is green. If you didn't remember to wear green today, remember for next Wednesday!

Welcome to our Blog. Today is the first day that we have blogged as a classroom community. We have been learning a lot so far.

We have started working on our government inquiry. In math we have been working on division, place value, ordering, and greater than and less than.

Yesterday we made Daily 5 posters for Literacy. They are to help us remember what we are supposed to/can be working on during each component.

Today we read articles that helped us learn more about the events that happened on 9/11.

Tomorrow is POD color day. Remember our team name is Innov8ors and our color is GREEN
